A Kitchen Built to Last
When Kim Bamford set out to find a new kitchen, her brief was straightforward: she wanted one she would never need to replace. "I wanted a forever kitchen, and now I've got one," she says. Following recommendations from two friends who had both worked with KF Kitchens, she went straight to the showroom at Faraday Mill and never looked elsewhere.

The Design Challenge
Kim attended the initial appointment with a clear sense of what she wanted and, just as importantly, what she did not want. After a tour of the showroom with Nathan, who provided a rough estimate for each element and an approximate overall cost, the next step was a home visit to Kim's property in Torpoint.
The kitchen kept the same footprint as before, in a peninsula layout, but the space posed a couple of specific challenges. The position of the patio doors restricted the natural flow between the dining area and garden, and the rear of the stairwell pressed into one corner of the kitchen, creating an awkward area to address.

The Solution
Nathan suggested relocating the patio doors to create a natural thoroughfare from the dining area to the garden. "That was a brilliant idea, so we got someone in to do that before we had the kitchen fitted," said Kim. The stairwell corner was addressed with an open shelf unit in rustic wild oak, complete with lighting. A second open shelf unit with lighting was incorporated elsewhere in the design.
Kim chose a Nolte kitchen, with tall units alongside the ovens in deep blue soft matte and base and wall cupboards in platinum grey matte. The worktop is 20mm Ethereal Noctis Quartz by Silestone. Karndean flooring completes the scheme. All appliances are Neff, including a two-oven combination with an integrated microwave and an oven with a slide-and-hide door. The central heating boiler, previously on the wall, is now concealed within one of the cabinets. Discreet brushed steel handles run throughout.
"It's a total transformation," said Kim. "I wanted a double oven in a block with tall cupboards in a dark colour, and it looks absolutely fantastic, it really stands out as a feature. The discreet handles in brushed steel are classy, and the worktop is beautiful. When the flooring was put down at the end, it just brought the whole kitchen together."

Installation & Completion
The kitchen took approximately three weeks to complete, including removing and replacing the ceiling. KF Kitchens handled all aspects of the work: electrics, plumbing, plastering, decorating, and fitting. "They were absolutely fantastic workmen, and all very respectful," said Kim. "They communicate with each other so that everyone's ready when it's their turn to come in. It was like clockwork."
The Result
Although the footprint remains the same as the previous kitchen, the new design offers much more storage and better space utilisation. "I've got double the storage space now. And there's more room to move around as well because the space is being used better. It's much lighter and brighter than the kitchen I had before. It looks bigger, even though it's not."
"We're going to be staying here for the foreseeable future, so we wanted a kitchen that was stunning to look at, practical to use, and a lovely quality that would be a kitchen for life. And KF Kitchens have delivered us just that."
